VE–Minneapolis Speakeasy Night is CANCELLED due to the risk of COVID-19 and the MN Department of Health's recommendations for events. Those who were already signed up for the event will be refunded 100% as part of the cancellation.
Welcome back to the ROARING TWENTIES! Vertical Endeavors Minneapolis is hosting a Speakeasy-themed fundraising soiree on March 21st to benefit the MCA! After we close at 6 PM, our front entrance and windows will be covered up, and our nondescript alley door will be unlocked at 7 PM to let in members and guests. Look for the red light and give the password “Highball” to the doorman to join us for an evening of climbing, carousing, and craft beer provided by Lakes and Legends Brewing Company! Check in at the front counter for any rental gear needed — it’s free for the night! Entry is $10 per guest and includes your first drink for the evening!
No Snitching: This is an exclusive event — As we continue to host this annual event, it will lean more and more toward the speakeasy tradition of popping up with little notice or advertising. The only folks notified will be VE folk, past guests, and our sponsors and partners.
Rags (Attire): Time to break out your flapping finest and your bootlegging best — dust off your suspenders, newsboy hats, beaded dresses and pearls! There will be a costume contest and the choicest bit of calico in the joint will win a sweet prize! Just keep in mind you might want to also bring a change of harness-friendly clothes if you’re looking to climb.
Amusements: The night will feature climbing (of course), space to lounge, swingin’ jazz, and Lakes and Legends will be serving beer at the lobby bar. Up your selfie game with themed photo backdrops, 1920s games, activities, giveaways, and more entertainment you’ll just have to come by to experience.
Libations: Your first drink voucher is included in your entry and can be redeemed at the front counter bar. If you’d like additional drinks, all you must do is make a donation of at least $1 to the MCA and you get another drink voucher. All proceeds, including your entry, benefit the MCA. Lakes and Legends will be serving until 10 PM. Prohibition IS in effect as long as you are climbing! No bootlegging, rum-running, or moonshining in climbing areas. Anyone who breaks prohibition rules will be promptly 86’d and uninvited to any future revelry. So, absolutely NO climbing after you have started drinking. When you are ready to imbibe, you will surrender your climbing gear at our complimentary Gear Check to retrieve your first voucher.
The Nitty Gritty:
• Orientations will not be provided, so if you plan to climb, be sure your orientation is up to date (you can do so by calling the facility to check: 612.436.1470) so nothing can bar you from getting on the wall!
• Everyone attending the event will need a valid Liability Waiver
• You must be 21 years of age to drink – we will be carding, so no funny business
• Remember, no password, no party
