Part Time Route Setter

Duties + Responsibilities

  • Follow setting schedule and set to our standard
  • Proper and continuous communication with Head Routesetter and Setting Team
  • Keep updated personal route log
  • Route tags/tape upkeep
  • Perform safety inspections of routes to identify fall hazards, rope drag concerns, etc.
  • Rope and hardware management skills
  • Maintain setting gear and equipment
  • Hold cleaning and storage/setting room organization and cleanliness
  • Assisting with wall maintenance (spinners, t-nuts, etc)
  • Assist Head Setter with competitions and special events (3–4 times per year)
  • Assist in implementing and enforcing facility rules
  • Forerun all routes and witness member/user sends
  • Be polite and responsive to customer feedback
  • Further improve setting program
  • Work with head setter and team coaches for youth climbing team-specific setting

Experience + Qualifications

  • USAC Certification Level 1 preferred
  • Youth competitive setting experience preferred
  • At least 1–2 years of setting experience preferred
  • Ability to forerun to V5 and 5.12 (ability to send that grade and assess the movement and quality) preferred
  • Physical ability to perform setting and hold stripping work while using ropes and ladders for long periods of time
  • Knowledge of solo belay techniques and use of ascenders
  • Must have the ability to seek, accept, and give constructive feedback in a professional manner
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy containers (>50lbs)

Expectations

  • 20–30 hours per week
  • 7/8:00am–5/6:00pm Monday–Friday
  • Set 10–12 routes or an equivalent number of boulder problems per week
  • Availability to work Sunday nights as needed for special events or competitions
  • Must be dependable and punctual
  • Must display professionalism and integrity
  • Availability to work special events, clinics, and competitions both at home facility and other facilities
