Where: Vertical Endeavors-Minneapolis
When: Fridays starting at 7 p.m. February 17th-March 23rd
Cost: $10/person (does not include daily entry fee or rentals)
Rules:
Teams of four will climb together every Friday night starting at 7:00 pm. Pick up your team’s score card when you check in each week. You will record all your climbs for that night but only your top 5 climbs will be scored each night. Only one score sheet per team should be turned in at the end of the night. You must have your belayer sign off on each climb. Roped climbs only. You can practice routes any day of the week but climbs will only be scored Friday nights. Repeat climbs on league night will not be scored. The top 4 weeks of climbing for each team will be scored in the end so your team can miss up to two league nights.
Choosing Your Division:
You will be asked to place yourself in a division when you register for the league. There are five divisions that range 5.8 through 5.12a/b. Choose your division based on what you rarely flash but can usually send after one or two attempts.*(Flash means climbing a route in one try without falling, taking or resting on the rope in any way the very first time you try a route. Send means to climb a route in one try without falling, taking or resting on the rope in any way.) You will be bumped up if we feel the division you have placed yourself in is too low.
Scoring:
You will earn points based on your division. For example someone in the 5.9 division will earn one point for sending a 5.7, three points for sending a 5.8, ten points for sending a 5.9, fifteen points for sending a 5.10a/b and twenty five points for sending a 5.10bc/d. This handicap system will ensure that beginner climbers are on the same playing field as advanced climbers. What will ultimately earn you more points is how much you improve not how hard you climb. For instance, someone in division I climbing a 5.8 will earn the same amount of points as someone in division III climbing a 5.10a. Three bonus points will be awarded for leading a route.
